Line Item numbering for better filtering in reports and dashboards

It would be helpful if there was a auto numbering column (similar to row numbering) that would number and sub-number the parent and child tasks such as:

1. Initiation

1.1 Assemble Project Team

1.2 Schedule Kick-off Meeting

1.2.1 Send out Notifications

1.3 Assign Project Tasks

2. Implementation

2.1 Document Requirements

2.2 Design Wireframes

2.3 Code Custom Layouts

3. Training

3.1 Identify Train-the-Trainers

3.1.1 Create the necessary content

By having this auto number sequence, reports can be setup to reflect the project structure and sorting is much easier.
