Projects Types and Project Layout Management Custom Settings

Inspire Planner allows you to manage waterfall (or schedule-based), agile and task list projects. As a default, only waterfall projects are enabled. However, if you would like to also create and manage agile and task list projects, you can choose to enable these additional project types.

For instructions on how to enable Agile and Task List Projects, we recommend you complete the steps outlined in Agile Projects - Admin Guide.

    Please Note:

The steps outlined in this help article only apply to you if you have configured the override for the "New" button for Projects.

If you have enabled the override for the "New" button for creating new projects, you are presented with all three (3) project types when you create a new project.

Depending on the project type you select when creating a new project, Inspire Planner then displays the appropriate page layout. This is controlled by the settings in Project Layout Management custom settings.

When you first install Inspire Planner, there are no settings (pages) in the Project Layout Management custom setting. You will need to execute the apex job that creates these pages.

Execute Apex Job to Create Pages in Project Layout Management Custom Settings

You will need to execute the apex job that is responsible for creating pages for each project type in our Project Layout Management Custom Settings. This custom setting tells Inspire Planner which page layouts to display when creating a new project based on the project type the user selects.

    1. Go to the App Launcher and enter "Inspire Planner Settings" in the Quick Find box. The click on Inspire Planner Settings.

    2. Scroll through the page and look for Update project type layout definition and click on Execute Job. A confirmation message will pop-up onscreen. This process may take up to 10 minutes to complete.

    3. After the apex job completes, you should now see three (3) pages in Project Layout Management. Go to Setup and enter "custom settings" in the Quick Find box. Then click on Custom Settings.

    4. Click on Manage beside Project Layout Management.

    5. You should see a page for each project type - Default Waterfall, Default Agile and Default Task List.

How Project Layout Management Impacts "New" Override

The override for "New" button references these pages. This means that if there is a page for a project type, it will display as an option when creating a new project. If you have all three (3) pages, then it will display all three (3) project types.

If there are any project types you do not want to display as an option when creating a new project, you will need to delete the page for the project type. For example, if you only want Waterfall and Task List to display as Project Type options but not Agile, then you need to delete the page for Agile.

Simply click on Del (delete) beside the page.

When creating new projects, it will now only display the project types that have pages in Project Layout Management custom settings.

    Important to note the following:

    • Every time you update your page layouts for waterfall, agile or task list projects, you will need to re-execute the Apex job in Inspire Planner Settings. By re-executing the job, Inspire Planner updates the Static Resource ID for the existing pages in Project Layout Management custom settings.

    • If you have deleted a page (for example, let's say you deleted the page for Agile) and you would now like to re-add it as an option for project types when creating new projects, you will need to delete all pages for all projects types and then re-execute the apex job in Inspire Planner Settings. Re-executing the job will then re-create the pages for all project types.

    • Re-executing the apex job only updates the Static Resource ID for any existing pages in Project Layout Management custom setting but will not re-create deleted pages unless you delete all pages first then re-execute the job.
