Project Tasks marked as Completed, no longer impact scheduling. Changes to Predecessor dates do not reschedule the Completed task or its Successors.
There may be instances, however, where project managers may want to reschedule completed tasks such as:
Delayed Predecessor Impacts
A task was marked as Completed early, but its predecessor task later gets delayed. With Reschedule Completed Tasks enabled, the completed task and its successors automatically adjust, keeping the overall schedule accurate.
Benefit: Ensures downstream tasks stay aligned with actual project realities.
Re-baselining After Scope Changes
Midway through the project, scope changes require reworking earlier tasks that were already marked Completed. By enabling rescheduling, the system realigns the timeline without needing manual adjustments.
Benefit: Saves time and reduces errors when reforecasting project schedules.
Keeping Historical Accuracy
If a project manager prefers that completed tasks remain fixed to preserve the historical record, the setting can be left unchecked (default).
Benefit: Provides flexibility to choose between schedule accuracy and historical consistency, depending on project needs.
A project setting, Reschedule Completed Tasks (checkbox), gives project managers control over how completed tasks interact with scheduling and successor dependencies:
When TRUE: Completed tasks continue to reschedule based on changes in the Predecessor chain, and their successors adjust accordingly.
When FALSE (default): Completed tasks do not impact scheduling, maintaining the current behavior.
This flexibility helps project managers maintain realistic schedules when task completion timing changes, while still allowing the option to keep completed tasks locked if preferred.
