How to Update Templates by Applying Settings from Global Default Project Settings

Last Modified On: September 11, 2026

In Inspire Planner, Default Global Project Settings are used to standardize project configurations across your organization. These settings define the default project layout (such as column order, widths, and visibility), preferences set in the Project Settings dialog, and designated non-working days. For more information, please see Set Global Default Project Settings.

You can also choose to apply the Global Default Project Settings to all existing Project Templates by selecting the Apply global defaults to all project templates button on the Inspire Planner Settings page. Selecting this button applies the applicable Global Default Project Settings to all existing Project Templates, helping ensure that your templates maintain a consistent configuration across your organization.

This option is particularly useful when:

    • You have multiple existing Project Templates and want to apply standardized settings to all of them at once.
    • You have made organization-wide layout changes, such as updating column visibility, order, or widths, and want those changes reflected across your existing templates.
    • You have updated Project Settings or non-working days and want to ensure existing templates use the same configuration.
    • You want to standardize existing templates without having to manually update each template individually.

    Settings Applied to Project Templates:

When you select Apply global defaults to all project templates, the applicable Global Default Project Settings are applied to all existing Project Templates. The following settings will be updated:

    • Project Layout - This includes columns displayed, their order, and column widths, and whether Gantt chart is displayed.

      Please note:

If you have previously customized the columns for a Project Template, Inspire Planner creates a User Project Settings record for that template. As a result, even after applying the Project Schedule Layout from the Global Default Project Settings, you may continue to see your previously customized column layout when viewing the template.

To view the Project Schedule Layout applied from the Global Default Project Settings, click the Reset View icon. This will reset your view and display the layout defined by the Global Default Project Settings.

    • Project Settings - This includes only the settings available in the Project Settings dialog, such as Start and End of Working Day, Weekends as Working Days, Project Scheduling Direction, Project Border Violation, Send Task Notification, and Assigned To Display.

Note: Settings such as Time Zone, Scheduling Mode, Assignment Completion Rule, Auto Assign Mode, Enable File Sharing, Enable Project Chatter, and other settings available on the Project Detail page are not applied to existing Project Templates, even if they are configured in the Global Default Project Settings Template.

    • Nonworking Days - These nonworking days will be automatically applied to existing Project Templates.

    Important:

When you click Apply global defaults to all project templates on the Inspire Planner Settings page, the action applies only to existing Project Templates. Existing Projects are not impacted and will retain their current settings.

Apply Global Defaults to Existing Project Templates

To apply the Global Default Project Settings to all existing Project Templates, first update the Global Default Project Settings Template with your preferred settings. Once you have configured the template, follow these steps:

    1. Go to the App Launcher and enter "Inspire Planner Settings" in the Search Box, and click on Inspire Planner Settings.

    2. Go to Projects & Templates.

    3. Click Apply to all templates beside Apply global defaults to all project templates.

    4. A confirmation dialog will appear asking you to confirm or cancel the action. Click Apply to all templates to confirm.

    5. A message will appear at the top of the page confirming that the job has been queued. You will receive an email notification once the job has completed.

Please Note:  If you make subsequent updates to your Global Default Project Settings and want those changes applied to your existing Project Templates, you must click Apply global defaults to all project templates again. Changes are applied to the templates only when the button is selected.
