Remove Project Baselines

A project baseline is a fixed reference point in project management that captures the original, approved plan for your project. Once the baseline is set, it serves as a benchmark for measuring performance. Throughout the project, you compare actual progress against the baseline to identify deviations, track performance, and manage changes.

For more information on how to set the project baseline, please see Gantt LWC - Set Project Baseline.

There may be instances when you might want to remove a project baseline in a few specific situations, usually related to keeping your project performance measurements accurate and relevant. This help article will show you how to remove a project baseline.

    Please note:

The project-level baseline fields— Baseline Start Date, Baseline Finish Date, and Baseline Duration—are automatically calculated from the baselines of the associated project tasks. This means that if you want to remove the project-level baselines, you must first remove the baselines from the individual project tasks.

To remove project baselines, you can either:

Remove Baselines from all Project Tasks

Project task baselines cannot be edited or removed directly from the project interface. To remove baseline values, you must open the individual project task record and clear the baseline fields there.

    1. Right-click on a column heading and select "Open Project Task".

    2. The “Open Project Task” icon appears to the left of each task. Click the icon to open the corresponding project task record.

    3. Scroll down the record to locate the baseline fields—Baseline Start Date, Baseline Finish Date, and Baseline Duration. Click the edit icon next to any of these fields to make changes.

    4. Remove the values in Baseline Start Date, Baseline Finish Date, and Baseline Duration. Then, click on Save to save your changes.

      Please note:
Gantt LWC supports up to five baselines. If multiple baselines are populated, you must clear the values from all baseline fields—Baseline Start Date 1-5, Baseline Finish Date 1-5, and Baseline Duration 1-5—before the baselines are fully removed.

Additionally, you will need to remove the baselines from all project tasks, including parent tasks and milestones, to complete the baseline removal process.

After all baselines are removed from the project tasks, the project-level baseline fields will automatically clear.

Clone the Project and Exclude Baselines

An efficient way to remove project baselines is to clone the project while excluding baselines. This approach is especially useful for large projects with many tasks, as it eliminates the need to manually clear baselines from each individual task.

    Please note:

This method is not recommended for projects already in progress, as related records—such as time entries, actual costs, labor costs, and Chatter updates—will not be copied to the new project.

    1. Click on the Save As Icon in the Project Toolbar.

    2. In the Save As Dialogue, enter a name for the new project (you can use the same name as the original project, if preferred).

Set Include Baseline Dates to FALSE. Then, click on Save As.
